For so long, I dreamt of travelling the world, encouraged by the books I read and studied. I wanted to see the ka’ba in Makkah: pray in the Prophet’s mosque in Madinah; stand on the rialto bridge in Venice; stand under the stunning works of Michelangelo in Rome; see the colours of Marrakech and gasp at the beauty of the Egyptian Pyramids.
I’ve wanted nothing more than to see the world. Until more recently, I didn’t have the luxury of travelling but that now I do, I keep wanting to see more and more of it. For me, travelling is about discovering the beauty of what is around me, learning about diverse cultures and traditions and pushing myself further and discovering the parts of me I didn’t know existed.
I guess that’s the purpose of most journeys I take, both literal and metaphorical. I want to learn more about myself and others. I want to see what I can truly do when pushed and how far I can really go. And mostly, I want it to leave me feeling grateful for all I have been blessed with and share that with the people I love.
As we begin a new academic year, I wonder what this next chapter in my journey will bring.
